Cousins
Two cousins born in separate countries reunite in Brooklyn when a run-in with an ex turns the night even more chaotic. COUSINS explores cultural disconnect between family members and identity within oneself.
WhatsApp being a theme in this short, inspired the colour choice for the title and credits.
dress up
On the eve of her sister’s wedding, Karina brings her “best friend” home to meet the family. In the face of familial expectations her anxieties begin to unravel.
This narrative starring Karina and her real life sister, weaves family home videos into the film, which is the main inspiration for the poster.
Sweet Refuge
A passionate Syrian baker spends his first Eid in the US attempting to sell the sweet he has spent his lifetime perfecting: walnut baklava. As he roams the streets of Brooklyn, he bumps into a savvy Indian ladoo maker, who appears to have figured out how to appeal to one of New York’s most coveted customers: Health-conscious Brooklynites.
The quirky nature of this narrative and the baker’s handwriting inspired the font selection.
Baladna
Baladna – which means “our home” in Arabic – follows a Palestinian sweet shop owner and Syrian baker who finds a new home, a tiny “oil rich” island, the kingdom of Bahrain.
